The Virginia Individual Development Accounts (VIDA) program is a special savings account program offered by Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) that helps eligible individuals gain financial literacy skills and build assets. For every dollar you save in a designated account, VIDA will match it with two dollars. Matching funds are limited to $4,000 per participant with a maximum of two participants per household.

The combined savings can be used to:
  • Buy your first house
  • Start a business
  • Save for you, your child's, or your spouse’s education (vocational training, community college, undergraduate or graduate degrees)
Nia is an approved intermediary for the VIDA program and, as such, receives applications and provides the training required for participation.

Once accepted into the program, DHCD will open and monitor a VIDA savings account on your behalf at Wachovia Bank or BB&T. You will make deposits at any Wachovia or BB&T branch.

This program is FREE!
