Successful Women's Health Programming

In 2015, we developed a response to a Request for Application with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) and Nia’s own burden to address the health and well-being of women living in the Greater Richmond region. With that response and funding from FNIH, we launched Healthy Greater Richmond: Women, Take Charge! with a focus on heart health.

Over 600 women pledged to take care of their hearts.

We are expanding our health initiatives for women to include breast and cervical cancer awareness and education.

Every woman living in Greater Richmond will know her risk factors for heart disease and breast and cervical cancers, and will have the intention, knowledge, skills and support to lead a lifestyle that reduces controllable  risk factors.

  • Increased awareness of heart disease, breast cancer and cervical cancer.

  • Empower women to identify and reduce personal risks.

  • Reduce health disparities among women.

  • Build positive social connections and peer support.

  • Mass media campaigns

  • Large-scale events and initiatives

  • Community-level interventions

  • Social connections
